Sermon Notes

Main Point:  As we focus on true worship in spirit and in truth, lives around us will be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Praise and Worship

• Praise is proclaiming what God has done. (shouting out his goodness)
• Worship is honoring God for who he is.  (acknowledging His Holiness and Righteousness)
  • Only our spirit can truly worship God acknowledging His Holiness and Righteousness.  
    • That is why non-believers say if there is a God then why do bad things happen.  There spirit is dead and cannot truly worship God.

Pastor’s Thoughts:

• True worship is a spiritual event
• Before you can truly worship you must be willing to allow the spirit of God to fill your heart.
  • Which requires humility (opposite of pride), 
  • Which requires surrender (your will to God’s will-part of humility)

Foundation Scripture:  John 4:23-24.  It is time to worship in spirit and in truth. 

• The opposite of spirit and in truth is in the flesh/carnal and phoniness (something fake)
• How to avoid praising and worshipping God in the flesh/carnal
  • Find that place in your heart that loves God and praise and worship from there.
  • When you are having trouble praising and worshipping God. Ask yourself this question.  Do I love God?  Then answer it, and praise and worship from there.

Pastor’s Thoughts:

• When we come together and we all worship from the heart, with a genuine Love for God and a desire to be intimate with God.  
• Then the result will be an encounter with God that results in joy and peace and love.  
  • Which by the way is what the entire world is looking for.  
  • We have access to it if we surrender to the righteousness of God.
• Fight for His presence as you would fight for people you love here on earth.

Who can truly worship and praise God?

• Philippians 3:1-10.  V3.  Paul was a Circumcised Jew, who worshiped God in Spirit and has no confidence in the flesh.
• Paul had all the right education and training for the world to think he was Spiritual.  But all the earthly titles and accomplishments mean nothing without a true love and relationship with God in the spirit.
• You don’t need a certain level of education or a title like Pastor or leader.  
• You just need to Love God intimately and worship him in Spirit and in truth and you will find what the whole world is looking for.  Love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, patience. Etc…..

As we praise King Jesus in 2023, these are 10 things that will be produced by your heart of praise.

1. Invites the presence of God (2 Chronicles 5:11-14)
2. Brings us closer to God (James 4:8)
3. Draws Men to God (John 12:32)
4. Brings Joy & Peace (Psalm 100:4, Philippians 4:4-7)
5. Repels Depression (Isaiah 61:3)
6. Brings Victory (2 Chronicles 20:15-20)
7. Brings Deliverance (Psalm 18:3)
8. Satisfies the Soul (Psalm 63:1-5)
9. Brings Liberty (Acts 16:25-26)
10. Strengthens our Faith (Romans 4:20)
