Holy Spirit Empowered: Part 3
Main Point: Do not be afraid to lose control and allow the Holy Spirit to empower you and lead you.
Hebrews 2:1-4
V1. Because Jesus Christ is our salvation we should heed to Christ’s message, less we slip.
V2. When the Lord speaks even thru his instruments, his word is binding.
V3. The Salvation message spoken by Jesus did not die when Jesus was crucified because he lives. The message continued to be confirmed by his disciples.
V4. God confirmed the message (bearing witness to this message) by signs and wonders, miracles, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed to men, according to God’s will.
1 Thessalonians: 5:15-24. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesying.
Romans 12:6-9. The spiritual gifts given to you by God are intended to be unique to you. You are designed to use your gifts to edify the body of Christ. (Not self)
Pastor’s Thoughts:
-When a soul is converted to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, this is a miracle, a wonder. It is a resurrection from death to life. Luke 15-8-10. The angels are joyful over when we repent.
-The gifts of the Holy Spirit that each one of us have, is also a way that God confirms the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a sign from God.
-Jesus tells the disciples to wait until the Holy Spirit empowers them. Acts 1:8.
-Peter witnesses the gentiles receiving the gifts of the Spirit while listening to the Gospel message. The evidence being boldness to speak with the gift of tongues and with boldness to praise God. Then ---Peter baptized them in Jesus name.
-Paul the apostle asked new converts to Jesus, if they had received the Holy Ghost since they believed. Acts 19:1-7.
-Paul the apostle makes it a point to teach the church in Corinth about spiritual gifts. 1 Corinthians 12:1-11
-Paul makes it clear that Love/Charity is the most important. What good are spiritual gifts if there is no Love? 1 Corinthians 13:1-3.
-Paul makes it clear that speaking in tongues without an interpretation, edifies the person speaking only so an interpretation is needed to edify the church. 1 Corinthians 14:1-6.
-Prophecy is greater than tongues means, in terms of edifying the church, prophecy is better. The gift itself is not better or worse.
-Paul makes it clear that we should desire the gift of prophecy and the gift of tongues and that all the spiritual gifts should operate in decency and in order (no selfish pride or glory). 1 Corinthians 14:39-40.
