Sacrifice-Trust in God

Main Point:  On this mother day we want to appreciate all mothers and women who have sacrificed so much for the sake of their families and others around them.  A heart willing to sacrifice for God’s Kingdom is a heart demonstrating true worship and trust.

True Worship looks like Surrender, Sacrifice and Service.

Sacrifice defined:  Willing to give up something for a cause.

• Secular example:  An athlete is willing to sacrifice their time training for athletic victory.
• Biblical example:  A mother is fasting and praying for their children, sacrificing meals for a spiritual victory.

 
Foundation Scripture

• Romans 12:1-2.  Present your body a living sacrifice.  Don’t be conformed to this world.
  • In order to be a living sacrifice, you must give something up
    • As Christians, what we give up (or sacrifice) is our carnal sinful will.
      • You give it up by surrendering to the Holy Spirit to empower you to overcome sin.

Pastor’s Thoughts:

• How do you mortify or kill your carnal sinful will?  By living in the Spirit.
  • Romans 8:13. It is in living in the spirit that you mortify the flesh.
  • Galatians 5:16. Walk in the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh
• The answer to being a living sacrifice is to figure out how to walk in the spirit.
  • Having a secret place time with God is healthy way to learn how to walk in the spirit

 
A mother’s sacrifice

• 1 Kings 17:8-16.  Zarephath had to trust God in order to give her last meal to the Prophet Elijah
  • Trusting God is key to sacrificing unto the Lord.
    • The act of sacrificing something unto the Lord is an act of trust and faith knowing God is good and faithful.

Pastor’s Thoughts:

• The reason we sacrifice things to the Lord is because we love and trust God is good.
  • The reason we come to church is because we love and trust God is good
  • The reason we have bible studies in the middle of the week is because we love and trust God is good.
  • The reason we have all day pray meetings is because we love and trust God is good.
  • The reason we give tithes and offering is because we love and trust God is good.
  • The reason we read our bibles is because we love and trust God is good.
  • The reason we have a secret place time with God is because we love and trust God is good

Conclusion:

• We are people who are not afraid to sacrifice unto the Lord.
• We surrender, sacrifice and serve because we love and trust our God.
• We will pray more, Worship more, and give more because we love and trust our God.
