The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is Everything

Main Point:  The resurrection of Jesus Christ is everything.  Because Jesus lives mankind has the opportunity to enter into eternal life.  Jesus died and rose so all have hope.

Foundation Scriptures:

Romans 10:9-10.  Calling Jesus Lord and believing he rose from the dead is what leads to salvation and transformation from a lost sinner to a son/daughter of God.
Matthew 20:25-28.
  • v25.  The world calles ‘greatness’ those who have power and authority over others
  • v26-27.  In God’s Kingdom, ‘greatness’ belongs to those who serve.
  • v28.  Jesus came to earth to serve humanity and gave his life a ransom for many.

Jesus died and rose from the grave.
Matthew 27:39-51.  Jesus gives his life to redeem mankind.
Matthew 28:1-10.  Jesus is alive.  Jesus appears to the disciples.

Why I believe Jesus rose from the dead.
  • One day I accepted Jesus Christ into my heart and experienced the forgiveness of sin.
  • One day I surrendered my will to God’s will and experienced the power of the Holy Spirit that transformed my heart and mind toward the will of God.
  • These two experiences:
    • The forgiveness of sin
    • and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit
      • are not just emotions or feelings to me.  They are transformational experience that are as real to me as anything I can see with my eyes.
  • The evidence is my life transformed by God.  Not that I’m perfect but that God counts me as his own and it is a privilege and honor to be used as an instrument for his Kingdom.
  • The evidence that Jesus rose from the dead is the reality that He changed me and leads me by the Holy Spirit.

Evidence of Jesus’ resurrection for a non-believer
  • My personal testimony may not be enough for a non-believer to be convinced that Jesus rose from the dead.
  • For the non-believer here are two types of evidence
            1. Historical documentation
            2. Human Pyschology and Common Sense

1. Historical documentation
Thallus AD 55.  (The earliest non-christian writer to refer to Jesus events)
“On the whole world there pressed a most fearful darkness; and the rocks were rent by an earthquake, and many places in Judea and other districts were thrown down. This darkness Thallus in the third book of his History, calls, as appears to me without reason, an eclipse of the sun.”14

Josephus.  AD 93. (Jewish Roman historian)
“At this time there was a wise man who was called Jesus. His conduct was good, and [he] was known to be virtuous. And many people from among the Jews and the other nations became his disciples. Pilate condemned him to be crucified and to die. But those who had become his disciples did not abandon his discipleship. They reported that he had appeared to them three days after his crucifixion, and that he was alive; accordingly he was perhaps the Messiah concerning whom the prophets have recounted wonders.”27

2. Human Psychology and Common Sense
“The idea that people generally don't die for what they know is a lie is often used as an argument for the resurrection of Jesus. The argument posits that if the apostles and early Christians were lying about Jesus' resurrection, they would have recanted under pressure or persecution, and would not have willingly faced martyrdom. This argument suggests that their willingness to die for their belief in the resurrection is evidence that they genuinely believed it to be true, and that their belief was not a fabricated story.

Summary:
  • We are here today because Jesus Christ rose from the dead
  • Jesus’ Resurrection is everything
    • Without a resurrection there is no redemption and transformation of the heart
  • If you are here today redeemed and transformed away from sin then you know Jesus is alive.
    • This is not just a story.  It is everything
  • If you have been waiting for the right moment to make sure.  Then today is that day.
    • Get right with God.
    • Overcome a sin.
    • Surrender to God’s will
    • Make him Lord
    • If you have no doubt that Jesus rose from the dead then it is your decision to accept him as Lord and be transformed.
