What does it mean to pray?
Prayer isn’t a way we get God to do what we want. Instead prayer is the way we draw close to God to find out what he wants from us.

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
Matthew 6:5-13
While teaching His disciples how to pray, Jesus included a model prayer that includes the basic elements we should remember when communicating with God.
Matthew 6: 13
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father who art I n heaven, hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
P stands for praise. Jesus began by praising his Father in heaven. Your name be honored as holy, worshipped, exalted, and adored on earth as it is in heaven.
When you pray, don’t rush into your request and problems. First praise God for who He is and recognize positive ways He has worked in your life.
R stands for repentance. To repent means to turn from one the direction you were going and follow Jesus. Jesus prayed: “ Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is heaven. V10. Ask God to show you any area of your life where you have ignored or abandoned His will by our words, thoughts or actions. Confess to God and turn to follow Him wholeheartedly.

A stands for ask. Jesus moved into asking for His daily needs in verses 11-13. Give this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts.. and deliver us from evil. When you pray ask God to meet your needs and the needs for others.
9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11:9
Y stands for yield. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory v.13
Jesus was saying Father, it’s all about your kingdom, your power and your glory. It’s not about me. Therefore, close your prayer time surrendering your life to Him. God’s way are better than ours. Philippians 4: 6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
When you pray, it might not move every problem, but with prayer, you are getting stronger mentally and physically, which will help you in so many other ways, preparing you for the next level of your destiny. The trials, the heartaches, the disappointments, are all but part of the process. To strengthen your character, changing you in ways that you could never change on your own.
We must keep moving and persevere in prayer, even when it feels like nothing is happening. We must put our faith and trust in God and believe He is working everything out for our good. Your desires and faith will activate God’s response.
How you think determines how you feel. If you choose to think negative thoughts, those thoughts will expand the more attention you give them. What started as a small problem can soon grow into something that can seem out of your control. When caught up in negative thinking, it can feel impossible to be faithful and optimistic. People can tell you all will work out, but you will not believe them. What is important to remember when fear has control over you, is the number one rule of the mind — The mind can only think of one thought at a time. An example, try to plan the rest of your day while thinking about what you did yesterday? prayer is so powerful is because it interrupts the negative thought loops that can develop in our minds reminding us of the unlimited power and love of God.
Don’t stop praying until God answers your prayers. Be persistent until your breakthrough comes, aware that sometimes answers can come in ways that you don’t expect.
Closing: Numbers 6:24-26
The Lord bless you and keep you
The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you
The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.
