Obedience

Main Point:  It is a privilege and honor to obey our God.  God is a good God and obeying his word leads to blessings and to Kingdom good.

Examples of Obedience
  • Matthew 25:14-30.
    • Be obedient and use your abilities to increase the Kingdom of God.

  • Matthew 25:31-46.
    • Be obedient and serve others as unto the Lord.

Other commandments to obey:

  • Hebrews 10:25. Forsake not assembling together to encourage one another.
  • John 14:15.  Jesus said, “If you love me keep my commandments”
  • 1 John 5: 1-2.  When we keep his commandments, we know we love God and because we love God we love others.
  • 1 Peter 1:14. As obedient children; do not live a sinful lifestyle.

Obedience to God’s Word should not be burdensome/grievous
  • 1 John 5:3. Obedience to God’s word is proof of loving God and it should not be burdensome or grievous.

Pastor’s Thoughts:
  • Obeying God is not burdensome when we have complete trust and faith that God is good and he loves us.
  • If Obeying God’s commandments seems burdensome then true surrender is needed.
    • When we are truly surrendered to God, then obeying God’s word is a privilege and honor and not a burden.
  • Obeying God’s word brings blessing and breakthrough.

Obeying is better than sacrifice
  • 1 Samuel 15:22. Obeying is better than sacrifice.

Is going to church obedience or sacrifice.
  • It is obedience to those who are walking in the spirit.  It is a joy to obey God and praise his name in church with other believers.
  • It is sacrifice to those who are not surrendered and do not have full trust and faith that God is a good God and worthy to be praised.

Pastor’s Thoughts:
  • It is not bad to sacrifice unto the Lord but it is even better to obey God’s word.
  • What good is it to sacrifice (like fast) and then not obey His word.
  • Both Obedience and sacrifice are good but obedience is God’s desire for us.
